Fields open to passive activities

Sparta. Township parks have been opened to the public as of June 1, but no organized activities will be allowed until at least June 22. Social distancing and face coverings are required.

    Several parks in the township were opened as of June 1 in accordance with three executive orders from Gov. Phil Murphy.

    The fields at Station Park, White Lake Park, and Ungermann be open for passive recreational activities with social distancing restrictions in place. No organized play or contact sports are permitted.

    Township officials said they reserve the right to discontinue use and close all fields. The basketball courts, volleyball courts and playgrounds will remain closed.

    Passive activities include kicking a soccer ball or throwing a baseball, football or softball. There is no organized play or contact sports, camps, clinics, leagues or scrimmages until at least June 22. Only 25 people per less will be allowed on a field.

    Social distancing of six (6) feet apart required. Face coverings required where social distancing cannot be maintained; encouraged where it can be maintained. Violators are subject to fine.
