Marching band takes third at national competition

Vernon. The Viking Marching Band completed its fall 2019 season in Allentown Pa., finishing third with a score of 92.165 at the USBands National Competition.

The Vernon Township High School Viking Marching Band finished third at the USBands National Competition with a score of 92.165 on Sunday, Nov. 3 in Allentown, Pa., to complete the fall 2019 season.

USBands scores each band on a 100 point scale. Bands may also be given one or more Caption Awards. The Vikings were awarded the Cadets Award of Excellence at the NJ State Competition on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Somerville High School. The Cadets Award of Excellence recognizes the Viking’s achievement in creativity, performance & overall effect. In a tightly scored competition, the Vikings proudly took third place with a score of 92.89 - a mere fraction of a point from the second place score of 92.970.

The Viking Band and Color Guard executed a program of three musical movements, showcasing soloists in thematic props designed to evoke images worthy of the title, “An Arabian Night.”
