Stuff the Bus hopes to top last year’s donations

Sussex County residents braved the Covid-19 pandemic to help their neighbors. The Sussex County Division of Social Services, along with local businesses and radio stations, collected non-perishable food and turkeys to benefit the division’s food pantry in Newton and other local pantries. Director of Human Services Carol Novrit said the donation drive will benefit 150 to 200 families in Sussex County.
“This year with the crucial situation of lockdowns and loss of employment, the need is three times greater than other years,” said WSUS radio personality Steve Andrews who greeted shoppers on Saturday morning and reminded them to donate in the Franklin Shop-Rite.
Andrews said the Division of Social Services Pantry offers food with no questions asked and no paperwork delay.
On hand in the parking lot, were Director of Social Services Joan Bruseo (manning the bus); members of the Hamburg, Franklin and Hardyston Police Departments; and members of the Wallkill Valley Youth Football and Cheer; as well as other volunteers.
