The GFWC Vernon Township Woman’s Club recently sponsored Vernon students Stephanie DeMattheis and Rachel Givens to attend the 73rd Annual Girls Career Institute (GCI).

Hosted by the NJ State Federation of Women’s Clubs, GCI affords rising high school seniors the unique opportunity to engage in a college experience while learning about various career options from women who have gained success and prominence in their chosen fields.

DeMattheis and Givens joined 175 girls from all over the state at Douglass Residential Campus at Rutgers University in New Brunswick. They experienced a taste of college life four four days by living in a dorm, eating in the cafeteria, and attending workshops where they learned about the diversity of career choices available to young women. They also networked with other GCI participants, worked on craft projects, presented skits and enjoyed group activities. Girls who attend GCI often develop life-long friendships with other participants.

The Vernon Township Woman’s Club meets monthly from September through June at the Vernon Senior Citizens Center. The Club is a member of the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs which was founded in 1894 and is headquartered on the Douglass Campus.
