Vernon. Glen Meadow Middle School welcomed John Halligan, author and public speaker, on Nov. 2 to deliver his heartfelt message about the effects of bullying. Mr. Halligan shared his powerful story, “Ryan’s Story,” in which his 13-year-old son took his own life in October 2003, as a result of online and in-school bullying. Students were attentive and respectful in each grade-level assembly as Mr. Halligan empowered Glen Meadow students to move forward in life as upstanders instead of bystanders. Throughout his presentation, he reiterated to the students, “You can make a difference. You are loved. You are all loved beyond belief.” His inspiring words sent a profound message to the students encouraging them to make positive changes in their own lives and to advocate on behalf of others.
