I am a Republican Conservative, yet in the upcoming Vernon Mayoral election I will be voting for Democrat Howard Burrell. My reason? For several years in the mid-80s, both Howard and I served on the Board of Deacons at the Glenwood church we attended and I saw firsthand his approach to problem-solving. Never once did he get bogged down with party line agendas, special interest diversions or personalities. Instead, he listened carefully to the situation, did his homework on the particulars, and then went for the solution that benefitted the greatest number of people for the least amount of financial damage.
As a condo owner in Great Gorge Village, Howard has a deeply vested interest in pursuing a viable and even-handed solution to the escalating sewer bills we are facing. Assuredly, Howard works exceedingly well with others. Moreover, it is a relief to get behind a person whose deep values, ethics, and integrity I can fully trust. Howard Burrell wants to help Vernon - it's as simple as that. I hope voters will give him the chance to do just that and vote for him at the polls on Nov. 5.
