Rinker, Shortway have dismal records

For the past eight years, Vernon’s government has been a disaster, with pet projects that have cost Vernon taxpayers millions of dollars, annual property tax revaluations that have increased our property taxes by thousands of dollars, and the Great Gorge Village sewer debacle that condo owners cannot afford.

Have you had enough yet, Vernon taxpayers?

Sally Rinker was mayor in 2010 and 2011. Harry Shortway was deputy mayor during the same time.

Shortway was Vernon’s mayor from 2016 to 2020 and was council president.

Both individuals are responsible for buying the Great Gorge Village sewers and creating the Vernon Municipal Utilities Authority. This has been one of the biggest mistakes in the history of Vernon Township.

Unnecessary and frivolous lawsuits they have filed - notably Shortway’s lawsuit against the Sussex County Municipal Utilities Authority, which he lost twice on appeal - have cost taxpayers many hundreds of thousands of dollars more.

In the year and a half that Rinker was mayor, we lost six town managers as one after the other resigned because of her as did the best municipal clerk Vernon Township has ever had.

With their failed and dismal records behind them, Rinker and Shortway want you to re-elect them as mayor on Nov. 7.

Vernon cannot afford another administration like the ones Rinker and Shortway have had.

Vernon residents have the unique opportunity for real change and competence in the mayor’s seat.

Anthony Rossi will bring that change.

Please vote for Anthony Rossi for Vernon Township mayor on Nov. 7.
