| 14 Dec 2021 | 09:22

Do you know how to recognize the signs and symptoms of an overdose?

Would you like to learn how to administer Narcan?

Are you interested in learning more about recovery support programs and resources available in Sussex County?

In 2020, there were 48 suspected overdose deaths in Sussex County, along with 119 overdoses where Narcan was administered by EMS or law enforcement. The rise in overdose fatalities, is due largely in part to the presence of fentanyl, a powerful synthetic opioid. Fentanyl is often sold as heroin and counterfeit prescription medication and has been found in other drugs such as cocaine and marijuana.

You can help reduce fatalities in our community by learning how to quickly respond in the case of an opioid overdose. Having a Narcan kit and knowing how to use it gives you the opportunity to save a person’s life and gives them a chance to recover from a substance use disorder.

Beginning Jan. 7, 2022, the Sussex County Recovery Community Center will host a free Narcan training on the first Friday of every month in collaboration with Prevention is Key.

The training covers overdose prevention strategies, including how to recognize the signs and symptoms of an overdose and how to administer Narcan, as well as local recovery support information and resources.

Pre-registration is required. Please reach out to katie@centerforprevention.org with any questions.
