Vernon Postmaster offers 'green' ideas
Vernon On April 22, people around the world will celebrate Earth Day by raising awareness and expressing their appreciation for the earth's environment. Vernon Postmaster Ronald Kajor is helping to deliver the Go Green environmental message this year by sharing tips with residents and businesses to make it easier and more energy efficient to buy stamps and ship packages.
Though many retail products and services are purchased at postal facilities, it is possible to skip the trip to the Post Office and save some gas by using a number of green alternative access methods, says Kajor.
The Vernon Postmaster recommends the following alternate access channels to help customers go green:
Stamps-by-Mail Postage-paid order forms are available from letter carriers to order stamps for delivery directly to home or office. Stamps are sold at face value and there are no additional fees.
Stamps online at USPS.com The Postal Service's usps.com Web site allows customers to buy stamps online and get them delivered directly to their homes of offices in just a few days. There is a small handling fee to prepare and ship the order.
Stamps-by-Phone Use a credit card and the Post Office'so 24-hour stamp hotline to order postage. There is a small handling fee. Dial 800-STAMP-24 (800-782-6724).
Stamps from ATMs The nearest access point for postage stamps may be one of the thousands of bank automated teller machines (ATMs) nationwide that dispense stamps at face value. Locations are listed on usps.com.
Buy stamps at local stores and banks
