Driving while intoxicated

The Byram Township Police Department recently released the details of a drunk driving arrest. On May 5, a Byram Township Police Officer reported seeing a vehicle speeding on Rt. 206, at which time the officer stopped the vehicle.

While speaking to the driver, Lauren Cassese, of Byram, the officer “felt she may be intoxicated,” according to the press release. Cassese was asked to perform several field sobriety tests, which she allegedly failed.

Cassese was arrested and transported to the station where she was charged with the following before being released to a family member pending a mandatory Andover-Joint Municipal Court date: driving while intoxicated, speeding and being under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance.

Careless driving, weapons possession

On May 14, a Byram Township Police Officer reported observing a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed on Rt. 206. After pulling the car over and speaking to the driver, Ryan M. Post, of Randolph, the officer suspected Post may be intoxicated.

The investigation revealed that Post, 20, had been consuming alcoholic beverages earlier in the evening. Post was arrested and during a search of his person, he was found to be in possession of a “switchblade type knife.”

Post was transported to the station for processing where he was charged with the following: unlawful possession of a weapon, operating a motor vehicle by a person who has consumed alcoholic beverages while underage, open alcoholic beverage container in a motor vehicle, speeding, careless driving, safety glass requirement and maintenance of lamps. Post was released to a friend pending a mandatory Sussex County Superior Court date.
