The Trim Trio, led by local guitarist John Curtin, will play at Live at High Point on Saturday, Dec. 21 at 8 p.m. on the main stage in the lounge.

The trio, composed of Curtin, Mark Woodyatt and Bob Wilson, will take the main stage in the lounge at 8 p.m. and perform a light-hearted mix of pop, jazz and folk songs.

Admission is free to the general public and a full menu, featuring sushi, will be available.

“A spin-off of the Gypsy Jazz Quintet, The Trim Trio is a real treat for folks that enjoy a night out of music, along with a whole lot of fun energy,” said Jim Golden, co-owner of High Point Golf Club. “The gentlemen that make up the band are a fun group of guys that take their personality to the stage and share not only their musical talents, but also their slaphappy liveliness with the audience.”

The Trim Trio performs an easy-going mix of pop, jazz and folk songs. This versatile string band blends the harmonies of the Mills Brothers, the passion of Bob Dylan and the humor of Dan Hicks & The Hot Licks in a joyous style that is pure Americana. Curtin sings his heart out while on the guitar; Woodyatt is the violinist, mandolinist and accompanies Curtin’s vocals, while Wilson is on the bass and sings when extra backup is needed – and that is The Trim Trio.

Curtin’s performances include instrumentals ranging from jazz standards by Cole Porter, George Gershwin and Django Reinhardt, and guitar rags by Hot Tuna and Chet Atkins, to medleys of famous movie themes and Beatle ballads, to modern composers like Norah Jones. His vocal selections are from classic pop writers Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, Joni Mitchell, James Taylor and Eric Clapton to modern writers John Mayer, Jack Johnson and whatever else he hears on the radio.

Other Saturday night performances in December include: Saturday, Dec. 28 – Obi Kaye’s Tribal Caravan featuring The Black Bear Belly Dancer.
