Nothing beats fishing with Grandpa. Reagan Hamilton, 9, of Vernon enjoyed a morning of fishing with her grandfather Caleb Williams of Shrewsbury, Pa.
Fishing Derby winners in the third to sixth grade category were from left: Dylan Harris, Tyler Hammerstedt, Matt Bott, Lauren Mele, Megan Hertlein, and Kate Blackmore. The prizes did not include the speedboat and trailer in the background.
VERNON — Last Saturday nearly 150 children and their folks came out for this year’s annual Vernon PAL Fishing Derby.
The event was held at the Firemen’s Pavilion Pond, next the Vernon Fire Department on Route 515. Two sessions of fishing allowed the youngsters the chance to catch some 100 trout donated by Vernon’s Double “V” Rod & Gun Club.
The largest trout stocked this year measured 22 inches. Additional native fish in the pond include large mouth bass and sunfish, which were the prevalent catch of the day.
