High Point wrestlers lose battle of unbeatens
SUSSEX — The High Point wrestling team suffered a low point in their season on Saturday, Jan. 18, when they suffered a 52-13 loss to Phillipsburg.
The High Point Regional High School gymnasium was filled to capacity as the two undefeated wrestling teams went at it on the mat. The Phillipsburg Stateliners made a statement by outwrestling the Wildcats 10 of the 13 matches. The fastest-pin match of the evening was between Phillipsburg's Tyler Petchonka and High Point's Garrett Fenlon. Petchonka pinned Fenlon for the win in 1:22 in the 126-pound weight class. In contrast the longest-pin match occurred between Phillipsburg's Max Elling and High Point's Tommy Hooker. Elling pinned Hooker for the win in 5:37 in the 160-pound weight class.
Phillipsburg left the building with a still perfect season record thus far of 6-0. High Point Regional record their first loss of the season and drops to 5-1.
