Ivan Lloyd Olson, 86 years old, died after a short illness at The New Jersey Fireman’s Home in Boonton Twp., N.J., on Monday, Sept. 21, 2015. Born to Lloyd and Letha Olson in Manlius, Ill., where he was raised before moving to Paterson, N.J., then Bloomingdale, N.J., and since 1968 the McAfee section of Vernon Twp., N.J.

Ivan served with the United States Navy during the Korean War and then worked as a painter for I.E. Du Pont in Pompton Lakes, N.J., retiring on April 30, 1985, after 20 years there. Ivan was an exempt member of the Bloomingdale Fire Department and a Life and exempt member as well as served as chief from 1977-78 of the McAfee Fire Department. He was always busy and involved with the fire department. He was a member of the Wallkill Valley VFW Post #8441 in Vernon Twp., N.J., and enjoyed bowling and travelling.

Ivan was predeceased by his wife, Joan Olson (2004) and was the devoted father of Michael Olson and his wife, Daryl of Wantage Twp., N.J. and Lisa Calderone and her husband, Joseph, of Hackettstown, N.J. Loving grandfather of Melissa, Adam, Jordan, Matthew, Andrew and Elizabeth. Dear brother of Keith Olson of Walnut, Ill., and Leon Olson of Atkinson, Ill. Cherished by several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive their friends at Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home, 241 Route 94(1 Vanderhoof Court for GPS), Vernon, N.J., on Thursday, Sept. 24, 2015 from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. McAfee Fire Dept. Service at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will be at the funeral home on Friday, Sept. 25, 2015, at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at North Hardyston Cemetery, Hardyston Twp., N.J.
