The 2015 19th annual Crystal Springs Golf Resort Employee Championship was held on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at the Ballyowen Golf Club.

Employees from the Resort’s golf courses became eligible to compete by holding qualifying events to identify the team of eight golfers that would represent their individual golf clubs. Seven teams competed for the honor of being named the 19th Crystal Springs Golf Resort Champions.

As in the past the resort’s vice president of Golf Operations Art Walton has added a special twist to make the event more fun for the golfers. Upon arrival at the 15th Par 3 hole the teams were divided into two teams of two golfers for a bicycle golf relay to compete against time to determine the winner. One member of the team would hit a tee shot while the other member of the team would be on a bicycle to race to the point where his teammate’s golf shot landed to play the second shot with teammates alternating shots until they holed out.

The event was timed to determine which overall team was able to complete the bicycle relay in the shortest period of time and the best score. The team of Dan McManus and Josh Chandler were able to par the 15th hole with a best time of 48 seconds earning them the win and a prize of an Engraved Ballyowen Pint Glass and a Cliff Bar.

At the end of play the team of Ballyowen Team of Don MacKay, Joe Sudol, Leif Romhan, Dennis McNamara, Tin Pieskach, Chris Ziegler, Dick Hough & George Gillis had carded a combined score of 19 under par to become the first 3-peat Champions of the Crystal Springs Golf Resort event.

The Black Bear Team captured second place with a score of 13 under par, the Crystal Springs team came in third with a score of 10 under par, the Cascades earned the fourth spot with a 7 under par, while the Wild Turkey Team finished fifth with a team of 5 under par. The resort’s administration team finished last with a score of 3 over par and earned a David Leadbetter Group Lesson for their effort.

Awards were also given for the best performance in four skill competitions. Paul Viliesis for the men and Katie Levins for the ladies took home the prize for closest to the pin on hole No. 4, and Doug Hill and George Schneider won closet to the pin honors on holes No. 6 and hole No. 11 respectfully. Ricky Hemberger was the longest drive winner for the Men while Kim Lyons was won the longest drive competition for the ladies.
