Big Friday getting bigger

Big Friday at the Black Bear Golf Club is getting even bigger as the place for Vernon area residents to have a good time.
The Big Friday fun events offer something for everyone including a 9 n Dine Golf Tournament and skill competitions and the Sussex County Long Drive Qualifiers for the golfers, pool for the pool players, darts for the dart players, music for the music lovers, a wing eating contest for the hungry and great food and drinks for those who are hungry and thirsty.
Friday, Aug. 19, at Black Bear was no exception with a large group participating in the Sussex County Long Drive Qualifier in the hope they could hit a drive long enough to get them into the Sussex County Long Drive Championship scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 17.
The long drive qualifiers continue every Friday at Black Bear Golf Club. Big hitters can register in the Pro Shop between 5 and 7 p.m. to see if they can capture a place to compete in the Championship in September.
Not to be outdone the golfers came out for the 9n Dine tournament in the hope of walking away with a prize.
At the end of play in the 9 n Dine Tournament Team Wallerius had carded a 7-under-par 29 for 9 holes to win the event.
And then there were the pool players, who competed in a “luck of the draw” competition while DJ Jay Burd from DDM Entertainment provided some great music to play pool by.
However, the most entertaining event of the evening, at least for the audience was the Wing Eating Contest in which hungry participants had 5 minutes to consume as many wings as possible in the hope of claiming the honor of being declared the Big Friday Wing Eating Champion.
When the bones were counted Rob Zendzian was declared the winner. He vowed that chicken wings were off of his menu for the foreseeable future.
