The Vernon Township High School Athletic Department recently named Athletes of the Week for Week 6 of the fall season.
Senior Katie Owens has been one of the major reasons for the girls volleyball team success this year. Katie helped lead the Vikes to two wins this week beating Hanover Park and Hackettstown. She had 13 digs, 10 kills and 5 aces for the week. She is also one of three captains.
Coach Sorensen said Owens is one of the hardest working players on the team and a tremendously positive influence on her teammates. This week, the team also won its 16th match tying the school record.
Sophomore Zachary Biango had 8 carries for 101 yards, averaging 12.6 yards per carry in Vernon’s win over Mount Olive in football. This was the second win in a row for the varsity football team. Biango led the team with 8 tackles, seven of them being solo tackles.
Coach Tepper states that Zach is a young player with a bright future in football. He has established himself as one of our top players and he continues to impress us on a daily basis.
