VTHS announces athletes of the week

VERNON — The Vernon Township High School Athletic Dept. announced its athletes of the week for Week 8 of the fall 2016 season.
Senior Brianna White has been a tremendous asset to the Vernon girls field hockey team this season. First-year Coach Kieran Killeen has been able to use Brianna at the midfield and forward positions this year giving him added flexibility.
In their double overtime thrilling loss to Lakeland this past week, Coach Killeen put Brianna up on the forward line for an added spark and she did not disappoint. Coach K stated that Brianna had some great runs down the field beating numerous defenders to give the Vikings some late chances for victory.
Senior Chris Ploch of the boys soccer team has been a vital piece of the Vernon defense all season. Whether it’s containing the opponent’s striker or heading a ball out off of a corner kick, Chris has always been up to the task.
According to Coach Jones, Chris has shown great leadership both on and off the field. He always is willing to talk and help motivate his teammates during games and practices. He is a great role-model for the younger players.
