    Mildred Rachel Sutphen (nee Schlosser), 85 years old, died after a short illness at her home, surrounded by her family, on Friday, October 6, 2017. Born to William and Ruth Schlosser in New City, N.Y, she was raised in Newark, NJ and then moved to the Highland Lakes section of Vernon Twp., NJ in 1957.
    Mildred was a dedicated homemaker, a volunteer for 35 years of the Vernon Animal Welfare League and taught piano and accordion at her home for 35 years. She took great joy in riding motorcycles.
    Mildred is predeceased by her husband, William Sutphen(2004) and 3 brothers and sisters and is the devoted mother of Mildred DeGroat of Highland Lakes, NJ, Diana Tintle of Wantage Twp., NJ, Judy Ballard of Sussex, NJ, Bill Sutphen and his wife, Cindy of Sussex, N.J, Georgeanna Hart and her husband, Jim of Sunrise, Fla., Tom Sutphen and his wife, Kim of Bridgeport, Conn., Laura Wallace of Coral Springs, FL and Russell Sutphen and his wife, Gail of Rougemont, NC. Cherished by many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Best friend of “Sweet Stuff”.
    The family will receive their friends at Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home, 241 Route 94(1 Vanderhoof Court for GPS), Vernon, N.J., on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017, from 2-6 p.m. Funeral service at the funeral home on Monday, Oct. 9, 2017, at 11 a.m. Interment to follow at Glenwood Cemetery, Vernon Twp., NJ.
