Bernd 'Bernie' Willy Walther

Bernd “Bernie” Willy Walther, 78 years old, died after a short illness at St. Anthony’s Hospital, Warwick, N.Y., on Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2017. Born in Zwickau, East Germany, he left in 1953 when he was 13 years old and settled in Vernon Twp., N.J., where has resided the rest of his life.
Bernie came to the United States and started work as a farmer at 13 years old and then became the owner/operator of Grand View Farm in Vernon Twp., N.J., for over 40 years retiring in 1987. Grand View Farm was best recognized for their renowned fruits and vegetables. Bernie was a former director of the Paterson Farmer’s Market and a member of the Blue Ridge Gun Club. He enjoyed reading, hunting, gardening, road trips, ice cream and being with family.
Bernie is predeceased by his mother, Anna Walther and his adoptive father, Kurt Walther, a stepson, Ronald Capalbo and is the beloved husband for 20 years of Patricia Walther(nee Capalbo Tancke). Devoted father of Theresa Walther of Vernon Twp., NJ, Michael Walther and his wife, Marcie of Wantage Twp., N.J., Andrew Walther and his wife, Lorraine of Branchville, N.J. Step father of David Capalbo of Vernon Twp., NJ. Loving grandfather of Julianne, Justin, Lisa, Ryan, Dallas, Ronald, Jenna, Jaclyn and Jodie. Great grandfather of Madison and Mason.
The family received their friends at Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home, 241 Route 94(1 Vanderhoof Court for GPS), Vernon, N.J., on Sunday, Oct. 29, 2017 from 2-6 p.m. Funeral service was Monday, Oct. 30, 2017, at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
