VERNON — Vernon High School Sophomore Carlie Van Tassel will be competing in the USA Hockey National Championships with her hockey team the Montclair Blues.
Her team came in first in league play within the Mid-Atlantic Women’s Hockey Association with a record of 9-1-2. They then won the league playoff and the Atlantic Amateur Hockey Association Championships to earn a spot at the Nationals.
What makes this really special is that the team competes in the under 19 years old division even though only the team goalies are old enough to play at that level. The rest of the team is comprised of girls between the ages of 15 to 17.
The USA Hockey National Championships will be held in Marlborough, Mass., from April 5th thru April 9. The teams competing in the national championships are the district champions from the 13 districts throughout the United States.
Van Tassel also plays forward for the Vernon High School hockey team.
