Orvil D. (OJ) Jackson passed away peacefully at the Karen Ann Quinlan Hospice in Fredon on Saturday, July 7, 2018. Orvil was born in Paterson, N.J., on Feb. 17, 1942 to Orvil B. and Matilda Jackson. He was a long time Sussex County resident.
A graduate of Lakeland High School, Orvil received his Bachelor's Degree at Morehead State College in Kentucky. He was a physical education instructor at Sussex Tech for thirty years. He enjoyed coaching football and baseball, guiding and inspiring many students along the way. He considered it the "best job ever!"
Orvil was a member of Samaritan Lodge, a volunteer fireman for Beemerville Fire Department, and a member of the Beaver Brook and Virgin Acres Gun Clubs. He belonged to HOG, AMA, and NRA. He enjoyed riding his Harley Softail.
Orvil was predeceased by his parents, his former wife Lois, and his Uncle "Ferdie." He is survived by his Aunt Elsie Keating, his cousin Cynthia Hopper, and his beloved Jean Ann, her son Alex and her granddaughter Taylor. His extended family, Loretta Dunn, Irish and Linda Dunn, Dutch and Mimi Dunn, Chris and Sally VanderGroef, Jason and Jennifer Dunn, Justin and Chelsea VanderGroef, Cayla VanderGroef, Bradley Ann, Aaron, Brianna, Paige and Adelyn will miss him!
Relatives and friends will be received on Wednesday, July 11 from 9:30 to time of service at 11:30 at the Ferguson Funeral Home, 27 Third Street, Sussex, NJ. Interment will follow at Beemerville Cemetery.
