For the first time in Vernon Viking Football history, two teams from the Vernon Youth Football program have been officially invited to play in the World Youth Football Championship at the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. Both currently defending 6-0 records, the Supers (5thgrade) and Pre-Clinic (3rd grade) teams have been fighting their way to the regional series that will take place in Sparta the last weekend of November.
If victorious, they will advance to Canton in mid-December to take on teams from across the nation.
“There is no doubt that both of these teams have fought hard and persevered under a lot of pressure and difficult moments to get here today,” said Mike Bruno, Supers Coach and President of the Vernon Youth Football Program. “Collectively, these boys have incredible athletic abilities, but more importantly, they are passionate about the game and have the chemistry to work well together.”
This is Vernon’s first season playing in the Morris County Youth Football League (MCYFL). The Supers and Pre-Clinic teams will continue their regular season games through Nov. 3 before heading to Sparta for the regional series.
