VTHS honors outstanding athletes

VERNON — The Vernon Township Athletic Dept. honored its outstanding athletes for Week 1 of the winter 2018-19 season.
Senior Captain Makenzie Thompson won the 500 freestyle in both meets against Newton/LV and High Point/WV last week for the varsity girls swim team. She also took second place in the backstroke in both meets as well. She also swims as part of the Medley Relay team and the 400 Freestyle Relay team.
According to Coach Shirhall,
Makenzie is the backbone of the girls and boys swim teams. She is a leader by example and pushes her team members to be the very best.
Senior forward J.T. Doyle has had a great start to the ice hockey season thus far. J.T. scored in all three games played last week, in wins over Montville, Roxbury and Sparta. The Varsity Ice Hockey Team is off to a 5-2 start. J.T. also plays on the offensive and defensive line for the Varsity Football team and plays goalie for the Varsity Boys lacrosse team.
