Charles William Finke III

Charles William Finke III of Glenwood, N.J., passed away after a long illness at St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center in Paterson, N.J., on Wednesday, March 24, 2021. He was 73.

Born to Charles W. Finke Jr. and Mary (nee Grater) Finke in Paterson, he grew up in Pompton Lakes, N.J., graduating from Pompton Lakes High School, and also lived in North Carolina, West Milford, and Riverdale, N.J., before settling in the Glenwood section of Vernon Township in 1974.

Charles, in addition to several other business ventures in construction, was the co-owner of Chas-Dick Redi-Mix in New Hampton, N.Y., and Hewitt, N.J., for many years; a shop steward for Teamsters Local Union No. 560 before he retired from Colonial Concrete in Riverdale, N.J., and finally as a dispatcher with Salamone Redi-Mix in Hillburn, N.Y. Charles honorably served his country during the Vietnam War as a U.S. Marine where, among several other awards, he was awarded the Purple Heart (twice) and was honorably discharged as a sergeant. Charles enjoyed vacationing with his family and was a voracious reader. He was always there for his family when they needed him. Charles will be dearly missed and loved by his family.

Charles was predeceased by his wife, Denise M. Finke, in 2017; and his sisters June and Marybeth.

He is the devoted father of Glenn Finke and his companion, Donna Motta, of Middletown, N.Y., Veronique “Nikki” Flynn and her husband, Peter, of Franklin, N.J., and Cody Finke of Glenwood, N.J.; and loving grandfather of Glenn Finke Jr. and Daisy Finke.

The family received their friends at Ferguson-Vernon Funeral Home, Vernon, N.J. on March 31. Funeral services were held at the funeral home. Cremation is private and burial of cremains at Northern New Jersey Veterans Memorial Cemetery will be scheduled for a later date.
