Mary (Cetta) Benziger of Newton, N.J., passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 2, 2020, at Barnhill Care Center. She was 91.
Mary was born Nov. 4, 1928, in Jamaica, Queens, N.Y., to the late Gaetano and Mary Cetta. Mary grew up in Walton, N.Y., and moved to Newton more than 45 years ago. Mary was a long-time member and volunteer at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Newton.
She was the beloved wife of the late Martin James Benziger II. Mary is survived by her son Mark James Benziger (Roberta); daughters, Mary Denise Acebal and Stephanie Theresa Benziger (Jon Schenck); grandchildren, Nicole, Allison, Christopher, and Andrew; sister, Theresa Valada; brother Edward Cetta; and many nieces and nephews. Along with her parents and husband, Mary is predeceased by her sons Martin James Benziger III and Steven Martin Benziger; brothers Tom and Mike Cetta; and sister, Caroline Harrison.
Visitation was held Sept. 8 at Smith-McCracken Funeral Home, Newton. A Mass of Christian Burial was held Sept. 9 at St Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, Newton, with burial following in Long Island National Cemetery, Farmingdale, N.Y.
