The Vernon Township High School Athletic Dept. honored its outstanding athletes for Week 4 of the winter 2018-19 season.
Freshmen Sofia Staley has made a huge impact on the Varsity Girls Swim team this year. Last week, she placed first in the 200 Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke against Jefferson. She had season-best times in both events. Sofia leads the team in the 200 IM as well and has qualified for the HWS Championships and the Sussex County Championships.
According to Coach Shirhall, Sofia works hard in every practice and carries a maturity and drive that make her a fierce competitor, great teammate and a pleasure to coach.
Freshmen Harry Malile recently won the 200 IM and placed second in the 100 backstroke against Jefferson. He also scored two second-place finishes against Pope John. He has also met the qualifying times for the HWS Championships.
According to Coach Miller, Harry is the hardest worker on the team and is a leader in and outside the pool.
