AUGUSTA — The Sussex County Beekeepers Association will offer a beginning beekeepers short course March 7, 14 and 21 at 9 a.m. at the Sussex County Farm and Horse Show Administration Building in Augusta. “Many people have noticed there are fewer honey bees in their gardens and yards, and they’ve decided to keep their own colonies to help pollinate their flowers and vegetables,” said Bill Foley, president. “Others are interested in the sideline business of selling honey or beeswax products. But with the challenges posed by pests and disease, beekeeping isn’t as simple as it used to be.” Workshops will address the biology of bees, beekeeping equipment, and mite and disease management. There is no prerequisite for the course. The fee is $20 for all three days and includes lunch and membership in both theSCBA and New Jersey Beekeepers Association. To register please call Linda Osborne at 973-875-5770. For more information and directions, visit www.Brodheckerfarms.com/SCBA.
