Bakers can compete in gingerbread house contest

    Jefferson Township — The Jefferson Arts Committee has scheduled its fourth annual Gingerbread House Contest as part of its upcoming Christmas in the Village event scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 5. The contest will be held in the American Legion Post 423 Hall located on Legion Road in Milton/Oak Ridge. Age divisions for participation are 4 to 5, 6 to 7, 8 to 11, 12 to 14 years of age, and 15 through adult. The rules are simple: Create a homemade gingerbread house or construct one from a purchased kit. Choose any type of structure with landscaping not to exceed 12 inches wide by 12 inches high x 12 inches long. All materials (except for a cardboard/wood/plastic base) must be edible. Judging will be based on the use of different edible materials, creativity and originality. Prize ribbons will be awarded in all divisions for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places. To enter, pre-registration is required, accompanied by a $5 entry fee. Entry forms will be available at the Jefferson Township Public Library, municipal building lobby, or Camp Jefferson’s recreation department brochure racks. Entry forms can also be downloaded from www.jeffersonarts.org under “Forms & Flyers.” Registrants must indicate the type of entry and the age of the person entering on the form, along with the other required information. Checks can be made payable to the Jefferson Arts Committee and mailed to Debi Merz, 4 Ross Court, Oak Ridge, NJ 07438 no later than Nov. 28. All gingerbread houses must be dropped off at the American Legion Hall on Friday, Dec. 4, between 6 and 8 p.m. Prize ribbons will be awarded and the public can view all entries and winners on Saturday, Dec. 5 at the Legion Hall between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. For information call 973-697-4372 or e-mail dmerz@jeffersontownship.net.
