Boating safety classes

Newton — Sussex County Community College offers classes on personal watercraft and boating safety, taught by Coast Boating School. These classes are for operators of powerboats who are 16 and older. A state-approved NJ Boating Safety Certificate is awarded. Children 13 to 15 can only be certified for operation of small boats with under 10 hp or electric engines; 16 and older may be certified for power boats and personal watercraft. The two-day course is given Wednesday and Thursday, April 1 and 2 and Tuesday and Wednesday, May 5 and 6, from 6:45 to 9:45 p.m., at a cost of $75.
