Wharton — The Jefferson Community Players will hold open casting for the full-length comedy, “Dearly Departed,” on Sunday, March 1, at 2 p.m. at the Jefferson Senior Center, 54 Schoolhouse Rd. Actors attending the casting call will be asked to read a scene from the play, directed by Damien Berger, of Roselle. The performance dates are tentatively scheduled for the end of April or mid May. “Dearly Departed,” by David Bottrell and Jessie Jones, features the mayhem and antics of the Turpin family in the Bible Belt South, who come from near and far to attend their father’s funeral. Despite their best intentions, they bring along their daily life problems and issues that continually overshadow the solemn occasion. Amidst the comedic chaos, the Turpins turn to their eccentric friends and neighbors in the community for help. The play, which requires four men (ages 25 and above) and six women (ages 20 and above), unfolds in a series of short scenes and permits many of the actors to double in their roles.
