Sparta — Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church will hold its eighth annual Last Supper Re-Enactment on Thursday, April 9 at 7:30 p.m., featuring church members as Jesus, the disciples, and Mary, mother of Jesus. The church will hold its Tenebrae Service of Shadows on Good Friday. The service is conducted in darkness, with select candles lit, to dramatize the sadness of the crucifixion. “Our Last Supper Re-Enactment and Service of Shadows offer the community a unique opportunity to become first-hand witnesses to some of the most moving moments the world has ever known. The drama and sadness of Holy Week culminate with Easter joy, capturing the heart of the Christian message. Hearing that message, and seeing the parts played out, is a powerful spiritual and educational experience for both long-time Christians and those new to the faith,” said Barry Benson, senior pastor. On Friday, an hour of devotions will be held at noon, followed by the Service of Shadows at 7:30 p.m. On April 12, Easter Sunday services are set for 8 a.m., 9:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. The 10:30 a.m. service will feature the weekly Children’s Sermon and a Sunday school craft session. From 9 a.m. to noon on Easter Sunday, the church will hold a special Easter Brunch for all members and visitors. Shepherd of the Hills invites the public to all of its Holy Week events. The church is located at 246 Woodport Road in Sparta. For directions or more information about church activities, visit www.sothnj.org.
