VERNON — The Original Olde Tyme Circus, the Circus Vidbel, is coming to Vernon on Monday, May 11 with shows at 5:30 and 7:45 p.m. at Mountain Creek South. The circus will benefit the Sussex Elks Lodge and its work with children with special needs. Aerialists, comic magic, liberty horses, jugglers, music, foot juggling, teeter board, unicycles, the Rola-Bola, acrobats and clowns are among the entertainers for both shows, said organizers. The Sussex Elks Lodge will receive 40 percent of advance tickets sold, they added. The group receives a much smaller share of ticket sales on show day. Circus Vidbel’s 20th tour has revamped its show for the 2009 season. During performances under the big top, Vidbel’s director and ringmaster Ian Garden, Jr. will introduce the audience to several traditional and unusual circus acts such as Suzanne Vidbel in an aerial cloud swing display, The Ashton Family will foot juggle, featuring two-year-old “Little Miss Cheyenne.” Also performing is Ian Garden, with his award winning Liberty Horse presentation and the Alvarez Family’s Teeter Board Act. There will also be plenty of traditional circus laughter brought on by the Vidbel clowns, organizers added. Advance tickets are $8 or $10 at the door. There is no assigned seating and all seats provide an excellent view. The Elks are also asking circus goers to support the circus’ food drive by bringing non-perishable food items to support the local food pantries. For information, call Mark Nelson at 973-209-0909.
