College offers boating safety classes

    Newton — Sussex County Community College is offering classes on personal watercraft and boating safety. These classes are being taught by Coast Boating School. These classes are for operators of powerboats 16 years of age and over. Boat handling, rules of the water, safety regulations, necessary equipment, and legal responsibilities will be covered. A state-approved New Jersey Boating Safety Certificate will be awarded upon successful completion of the course and homework assignments. Note: Ages 13-15 can only be certified for operation of small boats with under 10 horsepower or electric engines; ages 16 and older may be certified for power boats and personal watercraft. The two-day course will be offered on Wednesday and Thursday April 1 and 2 and on Tuesday and Wednesday, May 5 and 6, from 6:45 to 9:45 p.m., at a cost of $75.
