Dance Conservatory Spring Session at Centenary Stage Company

The Conservatory of Dance spring session at the Centenary Stage Company will run Jan. 21 through May 6 in the Lackland Center on the campus of Centenary College in Hackettstown.

Dance classes in the discipline of ballet, modern, jazz, theatre dance, Latin dance, and Dance Foundations are offered to the general public at a discount. The Dance Conservatory is designed to introduce dancers to professionals who are currently working as choreographers, dancers and educators in the field of dance and theatre at a collegiate level. All new applicants must audition on the first day of their respective class for Level I and II acceptance.

Returning to the Conservatory of Dance are Hannah Rolfes (Modern Dance I and II), Erin Usawicz (Ballet I and II), Christine Masse (Jazz), and program director Lea Antolini-Lid (theatre dance/Latin dance). The spring dance class schedule consists of:

Dance Foundations (Monday 4 to 5:10 p.m.): Students will learn dance fundamentals, terminology, and proper technique of ballet, modern, and jazz. This class offers the basics needed to progress to a Level I course. No dance experience is required.

Modern Dance I and II (Tuesday 4 to 5:20 p.m.): A combination of different modern dance techniques for advanced beginner to intermediate dancers. Vocabulary and emphasis will be placed on understanding proper placement, coordination, and musicality. Prior dance experience is required.

Ballet Level 1 and Level 11 (Tuesday 5:30 to 6:40 p.m.): Advanced beginner to intermediate dancers will focus on the fundamentals of classical ballet. Knowledge of ballet vocabulary, proper body alignment, and ballet technique are required.

Jazz I and II (Tuesday 7 to 8:20 p.m.): Advanced beginner to intermediate dancers are trained in the technical fundamentals of jazz dance. The class will focus on building a dance vocabulary, explore various jazz styles, and progression of movement execution. Prior dance experience is required.

Theater Dance (Thursday 2 to 3:40 p.m.): Advanced beginner to intermediate students will learn a combination of different styles of musical theater dance. The class will focus on the fundamentals of musical theatre emphasizing the execution of different genres, musicality, acting and character development.

Latin Dance (Thursday 4 to 5:30 p.m.): The basics of Latin dance styles will be introduced including the Rhumba, Cha-Cha, Salsa and more.

Tuition ranges from $130 to $275 depending on the number of classes the student attends during the week. Registration deadline is Jan. 10. For more information contact the CSC box office at 908-979-0900.
