Davis earns best in show' honors at art exhibit

SUSSEX The Sussex County Community College and the Sussex County Arts & Heritage Council has named the winners of the Old Mine Road Folk Life Art Exhibit, on display at the college’s Performing Arts Center. “Best in Show” goes to Tom Davis of Sussex for his photograph, “Cedars on Old Mine Road Montague, N.J. 2008.” Davis was awarded two tickets to the “Songs of the Old Mine Road” by the New Jersey State Opera at SCCC’s Performing Arts Center on Oct. 3 and recognition on the Old Mine Road Web site, www.oldmineroadfolklifefestival.com. Honorable mention goes to John Guidera of Millville with his watercolor painting, “Cy Harker #2”; Henry Di Stefano, a mixed media piece, “Trees”; and Werner Foster’s painting, “Dunfield Creek, July 2009.” Honorable mention recipients will also be featured on the Old Mine Road Web site with an image of their winning artwork. This exhibit was open to the public, artists were invited to submit art work with a focus of the “Old Mine Road” and surrounding areas and will be on view until Oct. 12. The Old Mine Road Folk Life Festival will take place on Saturday, Oct. 10, in Newton. There will be historic and artisan crafters and exhibitors along the street. Bus tours to Van Campen Inn and Peters Valley will be departing from this point. The “bike” on Old Mine Road will also be happening all day.
