Dr. Hook featuring Ray Sawyer to perform in Newton

| 11 Mar 2014 | 03:02

The platinum-selling Dr. Hook featuring Ray Sawyer will perform at the Newton Theatre on Sunday, April 13 at 8 p.m.

Dr. Hook was formed in the late 1960s and was then known as Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show. They were signed to Columbia Records by Clive Davis and later moved to Capital Records, with a name change to just Dr. Hook. Some of their best known hits are "Sylvia’s Mother," "Cover Of The Rolling Stone," "When You’re In Love With A Beautiful Woman" and "Sharing The Night Together."

Sawyer, the spirited, eye patched singer of the group, whose soulful vocals fronted the band’s breakthrough on the cover of The Rolling Stone, gained international status in the early 1970s and 80s. The Gold and Platinum selling band’s name was inspired by Sawyer's image and style. His trademark eye patch was acquired following a 1967 auto accident that left him without his right eye. Currently Dr. Hook also includes charter member Billy Francis on keyboards and vocals.

Accumulating 60 Gold and Platinum Records worldwide with Dr. Hook, Sawyer had the honor of being inducted into the “Alabama Music Hall Of Fame” in 2005.

Tickets for Dr. Hook featuring Ray Sawyer are $39 for premium seating, $34 for orchestra and $29 for balcony. Purchase tickets by visiting www.thenewtontheatre.com or contact the box office at 973-383-3700.
