Enjoy Latin jazz with Brian Lynch

Wayne - Trumpeter Brian Lynch will perform with the William Paterson Latin Jazz Ensemble, directed by Chico Mendoza, at William Paterson University in Wayne this Sunday, Feb. 22, as part of the spring Jazz Room Series. Lynch, with experience in both post-bop and Latin jazz, is a veteran of years of tours and recordings with Horace Silver, Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, and Phil Woods, and has been a first-call sideman and leader on the jazz scene for more than 20 years. More recently he has become dedicated to the Latin jazz style, including an important, critically acclaimed collaboration with the legendary Eddie Palmieri. Lynch brings his talents as a Latin player and arranger to this exciting event. The concert will begin at 4 p.m. in the Shea Center for Performing Arts on the William Paterson campus. Prior to the concert, Lynch will be the guest for “Sittin’ In,” an informal discussion about jazz, at 3 p.m. in room 101 of Shea Center. Admission is free to all Jazz Room ticket holders. Tickets for the concert are available in advance or on the day of the performance at $15 each; $12 for senior citizens, William Paterson faculty, staff, and alumni; and $8 for non-William Paterson students. William Paterson students may attend free of charge. Launched in 1978, The Jazz Room is one of the largest and most prestigious college-sponsored jazz events in the country. Performers include renowned professionals who encompass the complete spectrum of jazz, from practitioners of traditional jazz to avant-garde to bebop to swing to Afro-Latin jazz, as well as William Paterson’s own student ensembles.
