Free classes offer help in taking control of health

    Hopatcong — The E. Louise Childs Memorial Library at 21 Sparta Rd. is the site of an upcoming “Take Control of Your Health” course, sponsored by the Sussex County Division of Senior Services in collaboration with NORWESCAP RSVP. beginning Wednesday, May 13. The free six-week course for seniors ”who face the challenges of dealing with chronic conditions and/or their caregivers,” said program officials and is supplemented with a manual, “Living a Healthy Life with Chronic Conditions,” provided to each participant at no cost. Each week, the interactive class, led by a team of Peer Leaders, who are also dealing with chronic conditions themselves or as caregivers, will assist participants in: building the skills necessary to manage symptoms; communicate effectively with healthcare professionals; develop healthy lifestyles including good nutrition and exercise; alleviate fear, anger and frustration; make daily tasks easier; and get more out of life.
