Great Gorge will open its sixth season of Chamber music this month

VERNON-Chamber Music at Great Gorge will open its sixth season at 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 22 with a concert at St. Francis de Sales Church on Route 517 in Vernon. Bassoonist Ethan Bauch and oboist Gerard Reuter, both members of the renowned Dorian Wind Quintet, will join artistic director and pianist Gail Niwa and violist Ah Ling Neu in an assortment of works for various combinations of these instruments. The program will include a Concerto A Quatre by George Frederic Handel, Romances by Sir Edward Elgar and Max Bruch, Two Rhapsodies for oboe, viola and piano by Charles Martin Loeffler and the exciting Trio for oboe, bassoon and piano by Francis Poulenc. Ticket prices are $15 for adults, $10 for students and seniors, and $5 for children under the age of twelve. Tickets can be purchased at Annie's Bookstop in Sussex, The George Inn in McAfee, Highland General Store in Highland Lakes, Newhard's in Warwick and Sparta Book Shop in Sparta. General admission will be available at the door. The Chamber Music at Great Gorge Foundation was created to provide the finest in classical music in Northwest New Jersey through a series of chamber music concerts offered in Sussex County at affordable prices. The foundation hires first-rate professional musicians who have performed with leading orchestras or chamber music groups in the United States and abroad. The foundation also sponsors a school outreach program in which musicians visit area elementary schools to perform for and interact with the students. Concert funding has been made available in part by the generosity of local corporate and private sponsors, and the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State, a partner agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, through the State/County Partnership Block Grant Program, administered by the Sussex County Arts and Heritage Council.
