Heaven Hill to hold potato fest

    VERNON-Hard on the heels of its Corn Festival, Heaven Hill Farm, at 451 Rt. 94 in Vernon is hosting a "Potato Festival" from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. on Sept. 18-19. Attractions include a hayride through a potato patch, a contest to find a "Golden Potato," sack races, games of hot potato, and an opportunity for kids to create their own Mr. or Mrs. Potato Head. There will also be contests in potato peeling, dancing and mashed-potato eating. Chef Suely Masic will prepare a special menu that will include mashed potatoes, french fries, potato salad, potato soup, potato pancakes, stuffed potatoes, potato donuts, scalloped potatoes, Shepherd's pie and more. A traditional Irish band, "Kindred Spirit," will provide Celtic music, and Alice Backer will play the fiddle. Admission $7 for adults, $5 for kids under 12, children under 3 free.
