How about some Motown to kick off the holiday season?

The Temptations and The Four Tops spreading the holiday spirit Morristown Get ready for a Motown holiday celebration in Morristown when legendary supergroups The Temptations and The Four Tops perform holiday favorites and greatest hits on Friday, Dec. 11, at The Community Theatre at Mayo Center for the Performing Arts. Tickets are $67-$87 ($100 Golden Circle). The Four Tops have been wowing audiences with their infectious blend of pure vocal power and sweet harmonies since 1954. In the early 60s the group was introduced to Berry Gordy, who signed them to his new label, Motown Records. At Motown the group was teamed with the songwriting powerhouse of Holland, Dozier and Holland. The rest is history. Hit after hit followed, starting in 1964 with “Baby I Need Your Loving,” and continuing with songs like, “Reach Out, I’ll Be There” “Standing In The Shadows of Love,” “Bernadette,” and “ I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie Honey Bunch).” During the British invasion of the U.S., the Four Tops became a sensation in England. The history of The Temptations is the history of contemporary American pop. An essential component of the original Motown machine, that amazing engine invented by Berry Gordy, The Temps began their musical life in Detroit in the early 60s. It wasn’t until 1964 however, that the Smokey Robinson written-and-produced “The Way You Do the Things You Do” turned the guys into stars. An avalanche of hits followed, many of which, “My Girl,” for instance, attained immortality. “It’s Growing,” “Since I Lost My Baby,” “Get Ready,” “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg,” “Beauty Is Only Skin Deep,” “I Wish It Would Rain;” the hits kept coming. Tickets for all events can be purchased online at www.mayoarts.org, at The Community Theatre box office, located at 100 South St. in Morristown, or by calling 973-539-8008. Box office hours are Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
