West Milford — The bad news is Mary Messner of Hewitt lost her job last year. The good news, though, is she is making good use of her time helping out the Association for Special Children and Families, Messner is holding Marz’s Bazaar, a unique shopping experience and fundraiser, on Saturday, June 6, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Hillcrest Community Center gym. Marz’s Bazaar is open to the public. Available for purchase will be new and gently used items including clothing (all sizes and types), toys, books, household items, and more. Additionally, a few local vendors will be participating and donating a portion of their proceeds to ASCF. They include: Flags and Silver, Spa Products-Karma by Kali, jewelry by lia sophia, cosmetics by Mary Kay, and others. “I, like thousands and thousands of Americans, have recently lost my job,” said Messner. “In mid-November of 2008, I contacted my very good friend, Terry Kovach. Terry is a long-time resident of West Milford and the coordinator of children’s programs at Association for Special Children and Families.” Messner told Kovach about her situation and offered to volunteer at ASCF. “It became important to me to do something positive and constructive in the community with the new-found extra time I have on my hands.” Messner soon met the staff and became part of their team and a fundraising coordinator. “It is a volunteer position, and I am loving it.” We are confident that this will be quite a community event, said Messner. Everyone is invited to stop in and find their bargain. “Families can support ASCF by spending an amount that they are comfortable with,” said Kovach, “while picking up a few great bargains at the same time.” “Oh, save the date and mark your calendar for November 14,” added Messner. “I am planning a dinner dance/mini silent auction fundraiser at the West Milford Elks Lodge. Disco, anyone?”
