The piano students of Cherwyn Ambuter of Piano Lessons By Cherwyn of Vernon will be taking several enrichment field trips this coming season to experience professional piano music, to learn about the building of pianos, and to participate in one-of-a-kind concerts, and will gather for piano fun at Ambuter's home.

On Sunday, Oct. 18, the studio will visit William Paterson University to experience a live piano-and-saxophone jazz concert as part of the university's professional "Jazz Room" concert series. The children will attend the "Sittin' In" meet-the-artist session one hour before the performance to have a chance to interact with the artists and learn about being a jazz musician and about jazz.

The studio will travel on Saturday, Nov. 14, to Westchester, N.Y., where they will receive a private tour of the prestigious Faust-Harrison piano rebuilding factory. They will enjoy a closeup, intimate look at the piano action and how it operates, what it takes to make a piano and rebuild it, learn about care of their piano and what may be done to alter their piano for improvements in responsiveness, tuning, and more.

Jan. 17, 2016, will find Ambuter's students participating in a "Monster Piano Concert", in which students from around northern New Jersey will perform together on 16 grand pianos at once, led by a conductor. This concert is in the proud tradition started by J.S. Bach and continued by Carl Czerny, who was Beethoven's own piano teacher. Opportunities in this concert are available for a wide variety of levels, but reservations must be made this summer to ensure a spot in this popular concert.

In the spring, Ambuter's students will receive a private walking tour of the Musical Instrument Collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in Manhattan. Included in the tour will be an exploration of the history of the development of the piano, including the harpsichord, the clavichord, the fortepiano, and others.

The piano studio also offers recitals throughout the year, and this coming year will be adding "piano fun"-related gatherings that include music games, engaging piano videos, duet-playing, and other activities to build camaraderie within the studio. Playing the piano can be an isolating activity for a young person without being able to play in a band or in a choir.

Ambuter is focusing on helping the students to gain "piano friends" and have fellowship surrounding their piano study, as well as to learn about this beautiful instrument called the piano.
