Prom dresses designed by high school senior in fashion show

NEWTON - The SpringBoard Shoppes lobby on 145 Spring St. in Newton will hold a runway fashion show of 12 original prom dresses designed by Newton High School senior Chelsea Martz on Saturday, Feb. 14 at 2 p.m. The show will be hosted by Robin Lennon of Inner Designs and is part of the weekend festivities for Main Street Newton’s February “Second Saturday.” Martz said she’s been sewing her own patterns since she was 12. “I’ve been making dresses for myself and my friends for parties, formals and proms,” said Martz. “My goal is to attend college for fashion design and then pursue a career where I can eventually establish my own line of clothing.” Other Spring Street shops are involved as well: The Scissors Joint is styling the hair for the six teenage models; Chrissy O Designs is providing them with hand bags for their walk down the runway; and J.C’s Grill House is providing Valentine’s Day treats for the event.
