Registration for Centenary Stage's summer theater camps begins

SUSSEX — Registration is taking place for the two summer camp programs to be offered by the Centenary Stage Co. The “TYRO I/II Acting Program,” for six to nine year olds, will be held weekdays from July 6 to 17 from 9:30 a.m. to noon; and 1 to 3:30 p.m. for nine to 11 year olds. Using structured theatre activities which focus on expression, confidence building and fun, children will learn acting games and demonstrate improvisations inspired by fairy tales and folk tales, according to organizers. The TYRO Summer Theatre Program will be led by CSC Education Director Maria Brodeur, an actress and arts educator with experience in children’s theater. She holds a bachelor’s degree in theater and education from Rutgers University and studied the Meisner acting technique in New York. Cost is $200. “The Young Performers Workshop” is a musical theatre training program for those age eight to 18. The workshop offers theater arts training in acting, voice, and dance, emphasizing the production process along with a variety of electives. The five week camp runs July 13 through Aug. 16 from 9 a.m. to 4;30 p.m. Extended evening hours are offered to students by special invitation of the program director. Cost is $995 for the first child and $985 for the second child. No prior experience is required, but students must complete an interview process to be admitted. Interviews are scheduled for Saturday, March 28 between noon and 1 p.m. The camp will end in a full-length musical productions and one-act plays performed for the public in a 10-day Summer Festival of Shows. The program is led by Broadway performer, choreographer, film, and television veteran Michael Blevins and is staffed by theatre professionals.
