‘Scarecrow' highlights Vernon man's talents

VERNON — Award winning filmmaker and Vernon native Patrick Knipe’s film “Scarecrow,” a Civil War short movie, will be the feature presentation at the Vernon Township Historical Society meeting on Friday, Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. This screening of the film is free and open to the public. The film, written and directed by Knipe, was featured at the 2009 Hoboken Film Festival. Set during the Civil War, Scarecrow centers on a newly recruited Confederate soldier who has grown up on tales of heroism of the battlefield. In the middle of his first battle, the bloody realities of war engulf him and he deserts. Encountering two runaway slaves en route to the North, he discovers a different source of courage. Knipe is a finalist in the Coca-Cola Refreshing Filmmaker’s Award competition for one of his short films. He is co-founder of Mythmakers, an entertainment development and production company based in Burbank, Calif. Scarecrow is the winner of numerous film festival awards.
