SCCC honors the 100th anniversary of Theodore Roosevelt's election

    SUSSEX COUNTY-Sussex County Community College is celebrating the 100th anniversary of Theodore Roosevelt's election as President with a multi-media program and a visit to Sagamore Hill, one of Roosevelt's former homes. Historian Charles McSorley will present the multi-media program, which will highlight Roosevelt's years as President, discuss those who influenced him, and recollect two important domestic accomplishments during his term of office. "The Life and Times of Theodore Roosevelt" will be presented at 10:50 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 21 in the SCCC Theatre. Admission is $3 for the public; free for SCCC students. The trip to Sagamore Hill will feature a tour of the 23-room Victorian residence located on Oyster Bay, Long Island. The house has been restored to the splendor that was Roosevelt's "Summer White House" from 1901 to 1909. Participants will also have the opportunity for a self-guided tour of the 89-acre estate that holds the Old Orchard Museum, former home of General Theodore Roosevelt Jr. To round out the day, there will be a stop for lunch at Canterbury Ales before returning to New Jersey. The lunch costs an additional $15. The trip will take place from 8 a.m. (departure from parking lot)-6 p.m. on Friday, Nov 5. The group will leave from the upper SCCC parking lot by the E building.
