Six Centuries Club celebrates American history
Lafayette The Six Centuries Club has set up a three-part series of events for Sunday, Sept. 6, to kick of its explorations of American history during the first quarter of the 19th century. The following events are scheduled: From 1 to 2:30 p.m., The Hardyston Heritage Society will host the group at The Old Monroe Schoolhouse, Route 94, Hardyston, when they offer a reading featuring American poetry from 1800-1825. Admission is free. A document featuring local history research will be available for $10, $5 of which will be donated to the heritage society. From 3 to 3:45 p.m., Friar Mountain Model Railroad, off Demarest Ave. on the Sparta/Lafayette border, will host the program profiling the 1824-25 tour of the Marquis de Lafayette. The site will offer a $5 discounted admission to individuals arriving between 3 and 3:30 p.m. In addition to the model railroad, the site offers an interesting, yet little-known permanent exhibit featuring information and memorabilia of both George Washington and Lafayette. At 4 p.m., the club will screen footage from its 2007 Federal City Brass Band concerts, at their home base in Lafayette. The footage features authentic reconstructions of songs from the 1824-25 tour, and totals about 20 minutes. Only those who attend the 3 p.m. event will be invited to this event, due to in-house seating limitations. For more information, visit www.sensationsmag.com.
