Skylands art exhibit features 65 artists

Newton — The Sussex County Arts and Heritage Council will host the 22nd annual Skylands Exhibition and Sale, in its gallery, beginning Saturday, May 9 with a reception from 4 to 6 p.m. At the reception, champagne and hors d’oeuvres will be served and harpist Lisa Tachnos will provide entertainment. At 5:30 p.m. over $3000 in cash will be awarded to artists in various categories at the awards presentation. The exhibit, running through May 30, features 76 works of art by 65 artists. Included in the exhibit are watercolors, oils, pastels, sculpture and photography by professional and emerging artists from the region. Over 300 entries were judged by Dr. Nancy Einreinhofer, director of the Ben Shahn Galleries at William Paterson University for over 20 years. An expert on contemporary art, she has curated more than 60 exhibitions exploring various media and philosophies. Coinciding with this year’s Skylands exhibit is the first Skylands Tour of Art. Spring Street merchants will be hosting a past Skylands exhibiting artist in their stores from 6 to 8 p.m. after the reception. A map will be provided to locate the artist and stores that are participating. The council’s gallery and office are located at 133 Spring St. in Newton.
